Instructor: Deborah Chaney

Lithography is a mystery to many, but this class will reveal all the secrets. You will gain a clear understanding of how it works and it will make sense. You will have success in creating an edition of prints and have fun in the process!

This four-week course will introduce the beginning student to traditional stone lithography as well as hone the knowledge and skills of the experienced printmaker. You will be taught by a trained Tamarind Master Printer who will guide you every step of the way to easily produce your own edition of prints. Each student will learn to grain a stone, draw, etch, process your image, and print on the litho press. Paper prep, as well as curating, numbering and signing your edition will also be covered.

The Gowanus Studio Space

In an era when art encompasses infinite amalgams of visual media, The Gowanus Studio Space encourages inter-disciplinary exchange and provides affordable access to facilities for artists and designers.  Offering exhibition, curation and production opportunities, the studio is an incubator for new ideas and an inroad to today's insular art world.

The GSS' 40+ members rent low-cost studios and storage and have 24-hour access to a woodshop, print studio and large common workspace.  GSS was established with little funding in industrial Gowanus in 2007, and is now in the final stage of an ambitious move to a new 7500 sq-ft home.
